The Complete Yachtmaster
This
text-led, illustrated work reflects my years as an RYA instructor. It is
written for the thinking skipper, encouraging self-help and seamanlike solutions
rather than being dogmatic about 'the only way'. The book makes clear that the
elements of successful skippering are intertwined and not a series of tidy boxes
of information. Action in any department will affect what happens in others, so
in order to sail the seas without incident it is necessary not only to deal with
individual minutiae, but also to maintain a broad overview. This will include
everything from the state of the tide, through sail trim, weather and pilotage,
to noticing that the designated cook is feeling seasick.
A hands-on offshore skipper's manual for today's sailor, which Adlard Coles and I
update regularly to keep readers squarely on top of developments in all aspects
of the subject.
This latest edition (IV) is in full colour. The navigation sections have been
completely re-worked to take proper account of GPS navigation and chart
plotters.
